Review Update

 Posted by Gizmo:
I've spent some time today touching base with how the review system outputs data, specifically with different types of reviews and their relation to what displays genaricly.

I've added some subsets to the code that will differenciate on different sections on weather you're looking at a video review, or software...

Basically, you won't see a price of $0 on a video review, or a delivery method, as these are for product reviews. Instead, you'll just see what pertains to the section you're in (director instead of producer, etc).

I've also made it so the "body" of the review shows under the ad, it should help with visual real estate and give you more room to more easily view the review. The other sections of the review will continue to be to the right of the page advertisement.

Zine Update - K-1ine & Phrack

 Posted by Gizmo:
We've updated our archive of the K-1ine zine to include all of the new issues (the latest we had was #45 whereas they where up to 51).

Additionally, we've added both Phrack and K-1ine to the new archive system and will be updating any site links to reflect this change.

We still have a couple of things to move from the old archive before we purge it from the server, at this point I think we'll just lock the old archive to force users to use the new one as it's more secure and fits into the site design...

Our IRC host did some maintenance this morning and the servers croaked (won't start due to an SSL issue); I've sent off an email to them and we should hopefully be back up by this afternoon.

For anyone curious; the error is:
Shared object "libssl.so.4" not found, required by "ircd"
Edit @9:45 - After recompiling the IRCd and several modules; we're back online with the IRC Server.

Well, the search script will be getting some love in the coming weeks; I don't like that it doesn't match the site design and goes off to an oddly designed Google page... Just wanted to warn you if you're using the page ;)...

We'll also push out a "web scan" page and drop the "news scan" (as the news scan will hit both the site scan and forum scan).

Store Section Graphics

 Posted by Gizmo:
I'm thinking of when I get the current phase of stuff completed and go to introduce a new product type of going with a "binary" section...

The binary of coarse would say "010101010100011101001110001000000101001101100101011000110111010101110010011010010111010001111001" (UGN Security) and possibly have either "UGN Security" written in normal text as an overlay, or "Information Technology"... That or do "01001001011011100110011001101111011100100110110101100001011101000110100101101111011011100010000001010100011001010110001101101000011011100110111101101100011011110110011101111001" (Information Technology) as the binary and have UGN Security as the overlay...

But that brings out a better question, Information Technology or Information Security (0100100101101110011001100110111101110010011011010110000101110100011010010110111101101110001000000101001101100101011000110111010101110010011010010111010001111001)

Old Forum Redirector

I was really quite curious why the suexec log on the server was filling with various permission errors; turns out that, during some update no doubt, the cgibin was chmodded for security (since it's not used by anything) and the old redirector was forgotten about... oops :P...

Well, old (rather, ancient) links should now resolve to their proper place on the current forums...

Sorry to anyone still linking to old locations (theres at least over 2k links, yikes)...

I still have yet to move all of the old articles to the new articles system; it'll take some more time than I currently have to get everything in place, but it beats just having a bunch of 404's (the old system was abandoned due to security problems) :P...

Another Store Update

 Posted by Gizmo:
It's been a long couple of weeks of coding, but I've got most of the store out of the way. We have a few minor things to add in:

1. I need to code a parent link into each page to easily navigate to the parent page (and not using the javascript "back" code)

I went ahead and added a "most popular items" page; it required scouring cafepress for each order ever processed, but it's all in place (and will be easier to keep maintained).

I'd like to thank Curse for the idea of a most popular items page, and Glider for various suggestions.

Store Push

 Posted by Gizmo:
I've decided to open the new store ahead of schedule; it'll help in both testing and letting users provide input. As no server side order processing occurs (it all happens through CafePress) we're already allowing orders.

Since the old store didn't work in the first place, it's not like we're fearing something not working :P...

When I get some time I'll be adding a sidebar island here on the forums with a random product displayed; but this will take some time ;)...

To view the store, please click the "store" link on the top of the forum or main site; or here.

I went through all of the item pages and ensured the prices where currently matching that of the increases from CafePress; please note that the correct price will ALWAYS show on CafePress before you order an item and can fluctuate based on what type of increase they want to add.

I will also need to make some better graphics for the navigation pages; it's currently defaulting to the ones that I had used on the Articles and Archive systems (since I reused some code to save some time since there was no sense in reinventing the wheel).

Store Update!

 Posted by Gizmo:
I've updated about half of the store items and gotten them in place (it flied when I analyzed my coding and made several time saving updates).

After I get the rest in place (likely this coming weekend) I'll start work on tweaking the front-end UI and getting everything pretty...

There will be a lot of UI tweaking going on; it's not just going to be a small tweak like the other systems I worked on this summer...

I am still debating going 3 columns in a row or 4, so I suppose I'll have to make the system flexible enough to be able to cape with either...

The good news is that I already have the sitemap and rss feeds up and running; and the sitemap is already plugged into Google webmaster Central, so I expect it to start trolling the site there by the time I complete the store (at least this phase of it).

If you've got any questions about this, or any update, please feel free to email me directly, or post here!

Store Update

 Posted by Gizmo:
I'm beginning work on the new site system for the store... Why you may ask? Well, since I began running CafeScripts last year everything has stopped working lol...

So my solution? Well, we're fixing everything, then tweaking it, and making it work within the sites new design for our new sections...

Let me know should you have any input... I'll be making the navigation work like that of our articles system, and the item display will show much like it does within CafeScripts once all is said and done...

There will be a lot of work updating the CafeScripts database to fit in the new system (as none of the items have a description or a category associated with them) so it'll be a long development time to get v1 out the door.

I have the majority of the public stuff at 'release stage' but all of the admin stuff has yet to really be worked on; but that'll be started this week and then data migrations will occur after that is done...

Long posting :sigh: lol...
