Apple is a tough act to follow, but Dell's trying.

Earlier this month, Apple released its flashy iPod nano player and enhancements to its iTunes music software at an event in San Francisco that included appearances by Madonna and rapper Kanye West.

With far less fanfare, Dell released several personal technology products this week, including the Dell DJ Ditty music player, Axim handheld computers and Dell Photo All-In-One printers available in different versions.

Dell (Quote, Chart) is banking on mobility products to drive an increasing portion of its revenue. The Round Rock, Texas, company said the total revenue from all mobility products it shipped represented more than 40 percent of its total net revenue last quarter.

Dell includes notebooks, related software and peripherals, handhelds and music players in the mobile category.

Three new members of Dell's Axim X51 handhelds are now available, which feature Windows Mobile 5.0 software with persistent storage memory to help protect data and Media Player 10 Mobile for entertainment on the go. Prices start at $299. Windows Mobile 5.0 includes updated Microsoft Office programs.

The Axim X51 includes a 3.5 inch QVGA display or, on the Axim X51v, a 3.7-inch VGA display. The X51v and certain models of the X51 include integrated Bluetooth 1.2 and 802.11 WiFi wireless access capability.

In a nod to environmental concerns, Dell said the Axim X51 family is led-free and fully compliant with a directive by the European Union restricting the use of hazardous substances.

The new Dell DJ Ditty music player at 1.29 ounces is comparable in weight to the tiny iPod nano and holds up to 220 songs with an LCD screen for managing playlists.

It also includes an integrated FM tuner and supports audio books and portable music subscription services such as Yahoo! Musicmatch On Demand Portable and Napster To Go.

The Dell DJ Ditty is priced at $99 or more with options and adds to Dell's line-up of digital jukebox players. USB 1.1 and 2.0 connectivity is also included.

The Dell Photo All-in-One Printer 924 and 944 models have optional wireless capability and sport a new silver and white design, running $89 and $149, respectively.

The 924 prints up to 20 pages per minute in black and up to 16 ppm in color. It also offers a PictBridge port for standalone printing.

The 944 prints slightly faster than the 924 in black and the same as the 924 in color. It includes media card slots and a 2.4-inch LCD for standalone printing along with the PictBridge.

"Dell is committed to helping customers get more out of their personal computers for entertainment and productivity by offering complementary products that are easy and fun to use in and outside the home and office," Michael Farello, a vice president for Dell's consumer business, said in a statement.
