On Wednesday, the Bush administration is scheduled to publish its proposal to increase the security of the Internet. Properly titled the "National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace".
But, according to people familiar with the draft report, it pays scant attention to Microsoft, which has been responsible for more online security woes than any other company in history.
Any serious look at Internet security has to start with the world's largest software company.
A research firm, estimated early this year that the cost for four Windows-based infections--Nimda, Code Red, SirCam, and Love Bug--was perhaps $13 billion. And Microsoft IIS servers are typically defaced at perhaps four times the rate of servers running open-source Apache software.

Could the explanation be an unusually close relationship between Microsoft and the White House ?

very possible, it wouldnt suprise me. but remember microsoft is one of those companies that brings in a lot of money from other countries to the states, the American government sees this as a good thing to try to sofen the whole nation deficit thats in the trillions of dollars, whats a couple billion that consumers get ripped off anyways. so unusual close relation? doubtful, its a more of a normal close relation between the white house and a giant corporation.

"it pays scant attention to Microsoft, which has been responsible for more online security woes than any other company in history."

not to defend microsoft, but, its logical that the largest and most used company would contain the most security flaws. if 90% of the people on computers are looking at windows then 90% of the people getting attacked by viruses are going to be using windows. not that any of those numbers are correct, but just my thought on it

Well that is a thought, however Microsofts IIS is not the most used server out there. Apache is by far. And it still has less security holes than IIS which looks like a strainer when compared to Apache.

The reason Microsoft has so many holes is this.

They set a deadline to release a product. Why? $$$ thats why. As the deadline nears... It's hurry hurry hurry. We will fix that with a patch later come on. Don't belive me? Read up on the work conditions of software developers who work for microsoft. But that realy isn't all bad. Many companies do this. It all comes down to the bottom line and the dead line.

dude! I don't think this is a coincidence. Both microsoft AND AOL (3rd item) are in the results.

I thought this could have been one of those 'meta name' type of things (would have been even funnier if it was) So I looked at the source of the page ... no such humor.

nah, I thought of that, but it was just too rediculous for me to bother checking. Besides, I think it's funnier this way. It's never as funny when the guy you're calling faggot-boy actually admits he's a faggot-boy. Google's da biz.
