New research has shown that stem cells may be able to cure baldness. The research team at the University of Pennsylvania inserted a certain type of stem cell into bald mice, and their fur grew back.

Using "blank slate" stem cells, the team said "We've shown for the first time these cells have the ability to generate hair when taken from one animal and put into another."

The stem cells used in the research are different from embryonic cells, which are currently causing a controversy. One biologist warned that although the research was promising, a cure for baldness could still be years in the future.
