Music Copy Protection Spreads
Midbar Tech, the Israeli company which has added copy protection to many music CDs in the U.S., has announced that a Japanese record label called Avex will start using their Cactus Data Shield technology as well.
Avex will release three albums with copy-protection, although only certain songs will be shielded. This is the first time that Japan has experimented with this technology.
It is unlikely to be a smooth change, however. Every U.S. album that has been released with copy protection has sparked problems ranging from the CDs not playing properly, to the music being freely copied anyway. http://news.com.com/2100-1023-852540.html
