Web watchers are reporting that Yahoo is making its move into the search engine market dominated by Google. Noticeably, Yahoo is now using Inktomi more than Google for search results. Andy Beal, the VP of WebSourced, sees a 90% increase with Inktomi.

Yahoo posted info on Yahoo Slurp which "collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for search services using the Yahoo! search engine." Unlike Google, Yahoo allows sites to pay for listings and lets them see the number of hits.

Beal had a team of 15 people analyze Yahoo's search results. Beal feels they are using their own algorithm which "mimic[s] Google in many ways." A full official switch from Google is coming. 78.6% of US web searches are done through Google.
