An Australian Dingo-Kelpie mixed breed trained to find sewage-smelling meteorites may have accidentally proven that life once existed on Mars.

The dog, Tamarind, and owner, physicist Tony Taylor, found bacteria in mud in Queensland that matched fossils of simple organisms found in a Martian meteorite that struck Antarctica 13,000 years ago.

Taylor said the rovers that have recently landed or launched to explore Mars would never find the type of life Tamarind discovered, since it would only live underground and the rovers aren't digging machines.
