can someone please tell me how to record from VCR to computer. I have a cable to do it with on my laptop. Is there some sort of prog i need or card or something. I dont think i need a card becuase my laptop is brand new and has basically everything. any help would be much appreciated

1) Your video card has to have tv in (and not out).
2) you need a program to record it, don't know one.

buy an ATI card with TV in, it comes bundled with a program to do it, then when you have the movie recorded on yoru computer, you compress it....

does the ATI card have stuff with it to compress it or do you have to do that with another program, if so... what program? cool

Well first you'll need some codec's installed to use for compression, i reccommend getting: Divx 5, SMR, and if you don't have it get the MPEG4 (Mpeg layer 4) codec.


Then you'll have to locate video match, your best bet is to find it on google or use kazaa or any gnutella client (2 diff servers) to locate anything, the codecs you should be able to find just on google, but the Divx5 you'll have to get on kazaa since its not exactly freeware...

what about using adobe premiere?
that should be alright just that, or do i need the codecs aswell?

no, adobe premiere is a waste for something this simple. i recommend VirtualDub or VD for short wink. its very simple to use, all it has is video capture and compression. i always use the DivX 4 fast motion codec and compression at 600=900kbps 100% sharp and keyframes every 3-10 seconds produces relativly small, near dvd quality output.
