Probably, but does it really matter? They would most likely just chalk it up to a telemarketer.

Hmm Seph,
I dont think they are much in use anymore, but the term of it is "War Dialing", problem is u can end up with quite a high phone bill.
But there used to be some really good tools out for that kind of scanning.
/me thinks back to the days of 93 / 94

Hehe
/me laughs at the sales pitch for phonesweep
PhoneSweep Telephone Scanning with our commercial grade wardialer, PhoneSweep let's you find unauthorized and vulnerable modems at your organization. (or other organizations rather)
I am quite intrested by some of the functions it has.
PhoneSweep Will Dial Every Number In Your Organization
Once the Process is Completed, PhoneSweep Will identify computers running remote-access software to bypass the corporate firewall identify over 450 systems and try to break in identify approved or unapproved modems that accept incoming calls identify critical backup modems that have failed Sandstorm sells hardware to go with PhoneSweep: modems, racks, and serial cards.
Its pretty refined, I might buy it.
On second thought after seeing the prices im not interested anymore, $33.700

I'm going to try to add a feature to my wardialer that allows it to play a sound file to the phone line.

It's mine...it's still being made actually. Supports multiple modems for parallel scans on seperate phone lines, macro text for easy log entry, lots more! The interface should allow you to attach the phone line to a mic input, and a different one to turn the line on and off. I've already designed the one to turn the line on and off (will use the parallel port). Still need to make the one for the mic input. I'm trying to find a nice way to supress ring voltages (don't want 90v into your soundcard!). So far, all i've come up with is a zener for use as a voltage limiter.
