Today i was reading about prefix scanners, as i was reading, it said that it calls a bunch a numbers and tells you if it gets a computer tone repsonse. As i was thnking, wouldnt people get ticked off to see people calling and not sayin anything?

Probably, but does it really matter? They would most likely just chalk it up to a telemarketer.

I dont think they are much in use anymore, but the term of it is "War Dialing", problem is u can end up with quite a high phone bill.

But there used to be some really good tools out for that kind of scanning.

Wardialers are still useful when trying to find a DATU or other pieces of telecommunications equipment which is open to the outside.

If you'd like a list, i'm sure that I could come up with some, with download sites. But I don't browse the boards much anymore, so it may take awhile.

It's mine...it's still being made actually.
Supports multiple modems for parallel scans on seperate phone lines, macro text for easy log entry, lots more! The interface should allow you to attach the phone line to a mic input, and a different one to turn the line on and off. I've already designed the one to turn the line on and off (will use the parallel port). Still need to make the one for the mic input. I'm trying to find a nice way to supress ring voltages (don't want 90v into your soundcard!). So far, all i've come up with is a zener for use as a voltage limiter.
