The ones that I recieved on the IRC were dos based for one and use com ports... Kinda hard to use a PCI/ISA modem to scan when its wanting to use com1 which is a serial port ...

what is a PBX scanner?, may i ask.

PBX systems are the type of phone systems used by business, there own local network of phone lines and [censored]. You know, the kind you gotta dial 9 to get an outside line on.

probably like our school phone system. so a scanner is to scan for PBX systems in the area or whatever

Not quite, COM1 is I/O address 3F8 and IRQ 4, while a serial port is a 9 or 15 pin DB connector on the back of most of our PC's that accepts data in serial form. They are not nesicarily the same thing.

Yes, I'm being anal, but I have a couple ISA modems that can very easily be set to COM1, COM2, or even COM3 or COM4. (yes, I know COM3 is the same as COM1, likewise with COM2 and COM4)

Now I'm not arguing about the scanner needing a serial port, more that I'm just pointing out a possible oversight. <img border="0" alt="[Thumb]" title="" src="graemlins/thumb.gif" />

Com1 = PRO-39 POCSAG Scanner
Com2 = Amateur Radio PACKET Radio

Any clue on how these PBX scanners detect if a PBX is there?

Could it just detect a dialtone after the number is dialed?
