Len Davis was a police officer in New Orleans when he ordered the contract killing of Kim Groves who had filed a complaint of police brutality against him. The conversation ordering the hit was taped as Davis was under FBI surveillance at the time.

Davis was convicted in 1996 and sentenced to death, but that was thrown out after an appeal. Earlier this year in a new court case, with Davis acting as his own lawyer, the jury again sentenced him to death.

The sentence was handed down to Davis by US District Judge Ginger Berrigan on Wednesday. "This case involved the murder of a citizen for filing a complaint against a police officer. Two juries have said... this behavior will not be tolerated."
