Dr. Robert Gallo, one of the scientists who first helped identify HIV has said yesterday that he is seeing major progress in the development of AIDS vaccines, and the he may start clinical trials next year.

In an interview with Reuters, Dr. Gallo said: "I think we've made some advances in making antibodies that will react with the variety of strains of HIV." Gallo was in Israel to an accept an award coinciding with World Aids Day.

Specifically, he said "We have had some interesting results in the monkeys that show we can make an immune response." Unfortunately, the antibodies in the vaccine only last four months.
