With their first ever leftist winner in the 1st of March elections, the Uruguayans marks a landmark in a political trend for Latin American countries to turn to the left: Now three in every four South and Central American has a socialist for leader.

Among other leftist or Socialist governments are those of Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil and Argentina. Countries such as Bolivia, Chile and Mexico may also very well turn left soon.

For a symbolic first action full restoration of diplomatic ties with Cuba were celebrated by Uruguayan President, Tabare R V Rosas, and Cubann foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque.
