UGN Poker Tournament

Well, since not everyone may be interested (or skilled) in chess, a few of us in IRC have come up with a new idea for a site-wide game: Texas Hold'em Poker.
The idea so far is this:
Site-wide Limit or No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament.
If you've ever seen the World Series of Poker on ESPN, you should know what No-Limit Hold'em is. In this style, you may bet all of your chips at any time. Limit is a bit less dramatic, but the entirety of your chips are safe, unless you bleed them off little by little.
I'm looking into ideas on how we can incorporate many members into free tournaments using available software. The only problem is that I don't see much of a way to ONLY have UGN members play. Meaning, there may be quite a few strangers playing as well, if that's acceptable to everyone interested.
So far, I'm looking into the direction of PokerStars' software for their nightly multi-table no-limit freeroll tournaments. This is a rather large tournament (1000-3000 entrants!), but this would be a good way to create a UGN player ranking board.
This is still in the planning phases, so post here if you'd be interested.

Sure thing. The tournament I'm thinking of is held nightly at a certain time...if you sign up, you won't miss it.
Let me know if anyone has any better ideas.

Well we would need to have a registration for this so for registering i think that anyone who wanted to opt in, would email registration information to people arranging the registration. They would send such information such as when they are availible to play and their skill level. After a certain ammount of people register, we would put a tournament ladder up a few weeks ahead of time (so any changes that were neccesary could be made), of when the matches are, who is involved in them. We would try to match up skill levels up just for the sake of more interesting games, instead of a completely one sided one. This could all probably be carried out within a month. I dont know anything about that software, but if its anything like yahoo that has many seats per game it would make the job much easier. This is definatly going to need a ton of people. I dont know how easy it would be to get 1000-2000 people to register, thats my biggest concern. I think that a goal of 500 would be a tad more realistic, not to mention more manageable, but if you can get 1000-2000 im all for it.

I'm not looking for 1000-3000 UGN participants, definitely not. I meant that the tournament on PokerStars often has 1000-3000 people playing from all over. Hell, we could start this up with only 5-6 people, and it'll still work.
If we all get into one tournament, a leader board could be made based upon who busted out of the tournament when. With a tournament of this size, it's not possible to match people up as you can in chess. It'd be necessary, at least with larger tournaments, to use my suggestion.
