Recently my school did a "SECURITY UPGRADE" to all their computers. Now you have to actually log in at the Novell Client Logon Screen with your login and password and you don't actualy get to windows but you get a School Magix Screen with a selection of a few programs they decided to let you have. [School Magix is a program used to keep bad little hackers in control by not going into windows when you log in but running on top of everything else]

Now this wouldn't really matter to me that much except that "Intro To Buisness Applications" is not an exciting class and I can't get to Window's most precious treasure, Solitaire. I had to figure out a way to do it.

I knew that it had to be done at the Novell Logon screen before School Magix was loaded. I rebooted my computer and stared at the logon screen. Somethin in the back of my head was going "YOU ****ING MORON! THIS IS SO EASY!" Then it hit me, in about 30 seconds I had hacked into Netware, opened File Manager, found the School Magix Setup Program and given myself Administrative access and was able to add all the program I wanted to my School Magix selection. How did I do it? I'll let you know in a day or so. I wanna see if anyone else figure this out. and remember, i did it in bout 30 seconds so there was no password guessing or anythin like that nor did I use a program or any other kind of file or info. First one to get it right get's a rubber chicken.

ok let me clear some things up

- I turned the comp of manually because with school magix you can't even reboot unless you have administrative access

- The OS is Win98

- I was not logged in

- Everythin was done from the Logon screen

Wrong Guesses:

CTRL+ALT+DEL - doesn't work with school magix

Well, as it semms nobody got this so I'll jus tell you guys. In the Novell Netware Client Logon Screen there are two buttons on the title bar. A button to close the logon prompt which doesn't actaully close it and a little question mark button. When you hit the question mark button and then click on for example the login text box the help file open and you can read up loggin in an ****. Now all you have to do is click File>Open in the Help program and now you can read and .hlp file. But wait, I don't wanna read help files, I wanna play Solitaire. So what I had to do was change the mask from .hlp to *.* then every file was displayed in the open file dialog box. Now I jus went in the folder for School Magix and open the Setup Utility. I don't remember what it was called. Get this, the password is "secret". How do I know, it tells you, haha. After that it's jus a matter of playing around with the configuration and I could soon do everything that a full blown administrator can do, including reboot other peoples computers and go directly to windows.

See, that wasn't so hard.

oo...that was clever. well done.

but u also got lucky. i tested that with some other help files in windows and it says "that is not a valid help file" so it doesn' open. i guess cuz u weren't in windows, it didn't give u that error smile good job!

no no, when you have the Open File Dialog box you can't just double-click it. You have to right click and hit Open or else it thinks it's trying to open a help file because the .hlp mask is programmed into the MS Common Dialog Control.

really old...

I figured that one out in my seventh grade...
But we had winzip installed so I right-clicked progman.exe and added it to zip, then I ran it from there... =)

What I do at school when I'm givin the login prompt for Novell is hit the windows button. If you do this u get a "task manager" window which has a run prompt where you can enter the program path or browse for a program and run it. Simply do this and you have access to all the programs on the computer. Still havn't figured out how to get to the control panel yet though.
