Lindows... it's around, it works (So they say). What do you think. It's linux yet also has powers like windows. I am actully excited to get a copy (once the price drops). I mean to do both, have all hardware work... That would be fuckin awesome. Let me know what you think and know of it.

I still havent seen any reviews since its for its performance. I wonder how it is for gaming, hardware compatibility, and security. The target its aimed at isn't exactly computer savy, so i think theres going to be a lot of security problems with it. It's still a pre-realese they havent officially realesed it yet. $99 for a required membership seems kind of expensive to me, but im sure in a few months it will be floating around. I wonder how much they'll chargre once it is.

g00d deal, hope to hear if it's worth the money or not. I've heard that it's greatly been improved since the first time it was in the spot light, yet I am still not sure of that.

Well, first things first. Don't delude yourself the way Lindows designers did about it's amazing abilities to run all things windows. For over a month now they have been back peddling like mad on that stance. The big thing they're trying now is an install on demand feature where for a mere $99 a year you can download unlimited additional software from them. And the best part; a lot of the software available are already incorporated into most other linux distros. What a deal!!! More and more as time goes on lindows is looking to be a bigger and bigger joke. Take fro example this article from cnet this very morning: http://news.com.com/2100-1001-954884.html?tag=fd_top I've been seeing articles about Lindows every week or so, and every one to date has been them "adjusting" their orignal claims on what it would and wouldn't be able to do. If anyone is actually looking forward to the release of Lindows it looks as if they are going to be sorely dissapointed. sum

I've been seeing articles for 2 yrs now. True, it does seem like a joke... Yet it's a step taken. One day there will be another distro a bit better and again a bit better. Eventully something will work. Yet I still say continue to watch it, see what is needed to change. Maybe one day you guys can make a better version with me ;+).

Ok well first of all,
hKzKnight there is hardly any hardware that does not work "UPON INSTALLATION" from Linux and if you have a desperate need for some hardware you happen to own then you can write your own drivers.
Also $228 dollars (value they say, for $99) to get "free" software updates is a bit of a joke I think as somone already has pointed out that 98% of the so called "free" software is available truely free from the developers sites, ftp servers and so on. I am not sure, as I have never purchased a legit copy of windows apart from 3.11, but I think the last price I saw was less than what they are charging and its a "one time" fee which if you want to do so you can run window for 50 years and I wont have to pay them $4950 to use it for 50 years.
To me the idea sounds good and always has, but I am disapointed that the Linux market is becoming commercial for the end home user, I agree that server technologies and so on should be made commercial but I do not under any circumstance agree with home user platforms that are required these days to do anything with ur machine, to have to pay for them.
As I said anything that is specifically developed for business applications or anything in that region like windows NT/2000 server/.net (which I am getting exited about) , should be charged for.
Ohh and some interesting info: "The goal of Lindows.com’s Builder Program is to increase sales volume of your computer systems and generate new profitable revenue streams for your business. At the same time, we want to reduce the costs associated with your business, by minimizing administration time and eliminating complexity and confusion that currently exists in the desktop operating system marketplace."
Hmmmm right and I am Bill Gates
Well thats my 2 cents!

winmodem, some sound cards etc have a hard time working in linux. Yes you can make em work, I can... Yet think how much easier it could be (if this lindows works). The term winmodem would then mean nothing. Such pricing is not worth yet, indeed most is free.
