Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able help me with what is no doubt a very basic question.

I am attempting to create a method of extracting and displaying reports from an access database via a visual basic front end. I was wondering if it was possible to either create the reports (some including sub reports)on the fly, or extracting and displaying the report without the inelegance (and the huge memory overhead) of having to start the access application.

Crystal forms will be used in the future, however I am required to produce an interim version of the software using only standard VB6 and Access controls.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

thanks

I can't answer your question, but

you should probably, and obviously , look into database access with VB.

as for the report creation, you'd need to put it into some format, unless plaintext was ok. to do this, you could easily use comma delimited text, to be opened in excel (and pretty much every spreadsheet program). or, there are components that allow you to put your data in M$ word or other formats (RTF) with all all the formatting.

good luck, hope this helps a little. try experts exchange too...they usually have very good info.
