Electronic Arts Inc. on Wednesday said it renewed a licensing agreement with TV football analyst John Madden to continue using his name, voice and likeness for its top-selling video football game.

"Madden NFL 2006" is scheduled to be released on Aug. 9. An EA spokeswoman said the new Madden deal is a multiyear exclusive agreement, but declined to disclose financial terms.

Analysts had speculated that EA could forgo a license with Madden, a former National Football League coach who is now an analyst with ABC's Monday Night Football, because it signed a 15-year licensing deal with the sport channel ESPN. The cable channel will broadcast Monday night games next year.

Madden is scheduled to depart "Monday Night Football" for NBC's Sunday night NFL games, starting with the 2006 season. EA has an exclusive video game license with the NFL.

EA shares fell 66 cents, to $60, on Nasdaq.

The EA spokeswoman said the video game company -- which already has license deals with NFL, Madden and ESPN -- has no plans to enter talks with NBC.
