Linux for Playstation 2 Goes On Sale

Customers eager to get the very first Linux for Playstation 2 kits can preorder them from Sony. The final version of the kit will be shipped at the end of May. The $200 kit also includes a hard drive and other peripherals.

Although Sony feels that most people won't be interested in having the open-source operating system on their consoles, they hope that letting people tinker with the program will produce more and better software developers.

"We are doing this largely for noncommercial reasons. If it just pays for itself as an operating cost, that's fine with us," Sony says.

Yes it is really c00. However I garuntee that there are some nasty bugs walking around in it. However let us remember it is open scource and ANYONE! I MEAN ANYONE, can fix that up. I don't own consoles, I play a lot at friend's houses but I may buy PS2 w/ Linux... LOL well you know, I'm an adict. At least it's understood here... Anyway want to post in my linux forum? I'm all alone... :+( lol. There is more to it that just noncommercial.. This is a huge boost for the Linux community and for PS2... Xbox as we know is Microsoft... HINT HINT! LOL... Keep it real... Bless the Penguin.

I am sure they will have em online. If I had money I would buy it LOL. I just not sure though how well this PS2 linux box would run, I am so curious... I want to see it. A friend might get it... I am gonna open it up and see what can be done. Where's gizmo, GIZMO!!!!! Why don't you order a few of em, customize it for UGN Security and sell em? LOL

It will be able to do both I would think. Run Linux games and (unplug all the stuff) it can run PS2 games. I mean afterall it's a PS2. I don't know the specs exactly. They changed, from rumor to rumor. I think I head ab out 10 GiG HD, 2 USBs, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc... All I remember. Yet feel free to check out that news link above or visit/ email sony about it. Please do post back of any new info. Thanks
