Pennsylvania law enforcement officials report that a lollipop that doctors use to help cancer patients cope with chronic pain is being sold illegally on the streets of Pennsylvania. These "perc-a-pops" have fentanyl which is a synthetic opioid.

The brand name for the berry-flavored lozenge drug on a stick is Actiq. Cephalon, the company that makes the drug, does not know how many people use the drug recreationally without prescription. People appear to be drawn by the pops' taste.

The spokeswoman for the company says: "Like any opioid, there is a potential for misuse of a product. We believe ... there has not been a substantial diversion of this product in the state or elsewhere." 326,000 Actiq prescriptions were made in 2003.
