An Islamic website has posted that the Ansar al-Sunna group has beheaded Cpl Wassef Ali Hassoun, a US Marine who is of Lebanese descent. They claim they will release a video of the beheading.

The US is investigating the claim. It is believed Hassoun was taken hostage approximately 2 weeks ago. His captors had threatened to kill him via a TV broadcast shown on the Arabic satellite TV channel al-Jazeera.

The Ansar al-Sunna group is believed to have links with al-Qaeda. If his death is confirmed it will be third hostage killing in Iraq.
