The U.S. knew of a nuclear weapon black market in Pakistan for about 7 years before it became public. One firm offered a $50 million nuke package -- plans, equipment and fuel --without asking questions about its use.
A Pakistani arms show in 2000 advertised this one-stop nuclear deal. The company gave visitors brochures, among them a correspondent for the magazine Jane's Defense Weekly.
One expert said, "I think that now we have to confront the reality that there's ... a Wal-Mart, in effect, of nuclear smuggling" covering 4 continents. Behind the $50 mil nuke? Abdul Qadeer Khan, who created the Pakistan nuclear program.
