I sometimes wonder what the actual standards are rather than having spec's shoved down my throat by PC manufacturers...

I'm mildly curious about everyone's PC spec's (plus links if possible).

This thread is exempt from our "if it's dead leave it alone" rule ...

Brand: Self Built
Computer Name: Stargate
Est. Cost: $3000

Monitor: ViewSonic VX900 19" LCD Monitor
Case: Aspire X-Super Alien w/500w Power Supply
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600 256MB 8x AGP (cooling done by the Zalman ZM80D-HP with the optional fan
Floppy: Sony 1.44MB 3.5Inch Floppy Disk Drive
RAM: 4GB PDP DDR400 (each with a Vantec Copper Heat Spreader )
Hard Disk: 6x * Seagate 400GB 7200RPM EIDE
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Barton)
Motherboard: Soyo SY-KT880 Dragon 2 with a Thermaltake Slim Volcano 10+

OS: Undecided at this point, machine is still in production. I believe I'm going to end up with WinXP.

Case Badge: Baby Alien
Cooling: 6x Turbo Cool blue LED fan's which are connected to a Enermax 6 fan adjuster , I'm also using rounded cables for all drives. Additionally I also use Arctic Silver 5 as my thermal grease on everything.
Mod's: Front Side temperature readout, ultra bright blue LED's for HDD/Power light, 4 cold cathode UV lights.

* I'm hoping that the Hitachi 500GB disk drives come out prior to completion of this machine.
** I try to purchase all of the items I can from NewEgg as there is no matching quality and the quick shipping doesn't hurt much either.

Lol, how much is "embarasing"? I have to ask...

Also, how's the 22" NEC working out? I have a tossup to choose from but I think the 19" viewsonic should be sufficient...

embarrassing is-
$250 -for original crappy computer that i got some of the parts from.
$150 - new video card
$700 -for new case, motherboard, processor, hard drive, RAM
$90 -DELL monitor
$145 -22" NEC monitor
$90 - another stick of RAM
$50 - video capture card (forgot to mention)
$30 - 5.1 surround sound card
=$1270 big ones

also, the 22" is sweet, its kinda fuzzy, but i like to run it at 1800X1440 and the 17" at 1600X1200. i got my 22" used from a local shop who was having a sale. it kinda makes games look crappy at 800X600, but as long as you can pump it higher, its glorious.

I found some GEIL for about the same price, Dual Channel vs Single (yes i understand that you don't have to get ram that's TESTED for dual data if you buy exactly the same ram, but by compairing the prices and brand names it works out). The ram also has it's own copper heatsink anyway (actually I think it may be aluminum)...

I'll get a link later.

I guess it wasn't Geil, guess I decided to go with the PQI 2GB Dual Channel Kit $359.99; the other choice is Geil 2GB Dual Channel Kit $355.50... The PQI had more reviews, but i may change my mind later.

Both come with copper heatspreaders (shims)
