Cincinnati, Ohio: Monday white police officers were videotaped beating a 350 pound African American male after he fell unconscious in a white castle restaurant due to possible medical problems and drug influences.

The victim strangely fell unconscious and was treated by paramedics who notified police when he left the scene of his duress after regaining consiousness. When police arrived on the scene they immediately switched off cruiser cameras.

When the cameras came back on they appear to be captured beating to the man on his torso and shoulders. The victim died shortly thereafter.

frown sad, [censored] weak [censored]. I used to live 45 minutes from Cincinnati, it's a big place, lots of indifference, and such. But where isn't...[censored] up bro.

I have a feeling this will blow up big over the next couple days. I hope anyway. There has been so much "Respect police and federal agents, trust us" since 9/11 something needs to happen to cause a back lash for balance.

A friend of mine just told me the coroner's office has labeled his death as a homicide. And the crap has hit the fan.

Here is how I heard it, including an interview w/ a black civil rights activist in Cincinnati organizing a boycott.

Man is narcoleptic. He is in whitecastle, and starts falling asleep. He comes outside and starts marching around front chanting 666 and 999. He appears to pass out and falls to the ground. There are attempts to revive him, and are met w/ failure. Cameras have videotaped this from inside. Now we have someone call 911 and the paramedics show up. He awakens and tries to get himself out of his stupor. He refuses paramedic attention. Naturally the police show up to, due to the disturbance and call to 911. The police call the mental health patrol (or something like that) and they try to detain the individual w/o force.

The individual begins to speak to the cops and the cops back up to avoid confrontation. Eventually, the individual continues to resist and is maced. He then attacks the police officers. After throwing punches, taking down a police officer, and placing them in a headlock... he is finally brought to the ground and struck repeatedly w/ batons.

Piecing the videotape together using multiple camera recordings (police cruiser and onlookers), there was less than 2 minutes missing. And the initiation of the macing and beating is shown, so it isn't some coverup on the cops side, all the relevant bits are on video.

1] He deserved it. Amped out on crack and PCP
2] Cops didn't kill him w/ beatings. NO internal bleeding or anything. He did from complications relating to obesity, heart problems, and a large drug habit.
3] He had a previous record, he initiated the attack, he had created a disturbance, he resisted the police officers, and he was behaving oddly. Sorry, don't care about his color of skin, anyone that attacks a cop like that is going to get his [censored] beat. Why take a chance the cracked out [censored] could get back up or grab a cops gun?

I get sick of the people that complain everytime a cop defends themselves, uses extreme force back, a/o it involves black criminals (which he was) and white cops (and a black cop).

He deserved it. He was obviously a PoS and I am happy he died. Too bad the cops might get in trouble for this. Burn in hell Nathaniel Jones, BURN IN HELL.

First of all Jon I agree with you. If he was on drugs, and out of control then yes he brought it on himself. The question is this: If everything went down just the way you said it did, then why is the coroner's office saying it's a homicide?

Jon, I'm not sure where you got your facts from. I read the story at CNN.com. The man was not "amped out" on any drugs. The coroner reported he had traces of cocaine and pcp-laced cigarettes (what they called 'em) in his system. The man was a narcoleptic as you said, but he also had hypertension (an oversized heart too, but I doubt if that contributed to his behavior). The death was ruled a "homicide," which the coroner says was a result of the struggle. Lying on the ground and getting beat counts as a struggle? Although he didn't have any internal injuries. So if it was a homicide, then someone had to kill him, right? Personally, I would like to ask how you would feel if you had a sudden attack, then were behaving "oddly," and the police decided to beat you into a pulp. Yes, I know he did "lunge" at the officers, but does lunging require 40-50 hits with a nightstick as punishment? And the whole "grabbing the gun" argument is worthless in my opinion. The man was not in a normal mental state, and police use special holsters on their guns to prevent exactly this sort of thing (at least around here they do). I agree he did bring it upon himself, but the police do not have the right to use this kind of force unless the situation demands it, such as a shoot out, etc. Just because he was fat and had mental problems doesen't mean he deserved to die.

a homocide just means a death caused by another person, so if he died of a heart problem or drug related problem it still could have been brought on by the struggle with the cops. that doesn't mean the cops intentionally killed him.

What I am saying is that, well, that is asinine. So most people are saying here, he had to attack them more or shoot at them. Jesus [censored]. they are protecting us out there. This huge man is behaving irrationally (yes, his size had an issue to play in both his health and the increase of a threat he presented). Look at the video, he was obviously initially overpowering them. And it wasn't a "lunge", look at the video. It was a lunge, punches, headlock, and takedown.

So they gave him warnings and the baton wasn't really used until they had him somewhat under control. As a preventative measure. Maybe you have never been in a fight, but I am sure you can realize when someone has the upper had of size and has already attacked you, you don't just hit him a few times and then hope he stops.

He obviously appeared to be out of control in the video and the cops attempt to overpower him was almost pathetic at first. And yes, his death was the result of a struggle. Not of anything inflicted by the cops. His obesity, oversized heart, hypertension, drug-use, and general health all contributed to the fact that the altercation was more than he was physically fit to handle. It wasn't the exertion from the beating as much as it was from the strain of his initial attack on them and the incident as a whole.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I agree with you about the cops being out there protecting us. Also he was a big fellow. Although you also said "the baton was'nt really used until they had him somewhat under control". It's my understanding that once a suspect is under control any use of excessive force after that point is illegal.
I can't tell how many videos have shown police officers beating suspects that are already subdued.
Also the videos show the officer striking this man with the end of his baton. You can do alot more damage to the human body than just striking lengthwise. I just believe the entire situation was totally handled the wrong way. Other than that I agree with you.

Stun guns were proposed a while ago, and they should all have them. Now, in the video itself you can actually hear the cops call for backup and tell them to bring a tazer.

As for the subdued, I am simply stating while he may have appeared to be subdued, for his attacking the police officers, it would be tough to be in that position and be able to tell if he is for sure subdued. With his size and the initial attack, would leave them to believe he was a danger unless surely subdued. That is why I understand peoples comments, but when you are actually out there and it is a threat to you, you don't count each blow and then pause to see if he will still fight back or not.

And I like the avatar too, and then one you have briefly before it.

Jon, you just said you don't count each blow and then pause to see if he will still back or not.

Do you realize this is very reason people are killed every year by police officers. There have been far to many incidents of police officers accidently killing
people, whether they are suspects or an innocent bystanders. Two such cases are an elderly woman who died from a massive heartattack after police threw a stun grenade into her apartment, seems they thought she was a drug dealer. Another was shot multiple times by police when they broke into his apartment, He thought a buglar had broke so he took his gun, and entered the living room expecting a burglar only to be killed by police.
In many cases where police have killed suspects or innocent bystanders, not one of the police were punished or jail for these fatal mistakes.
Is it any wonder why some people are very leary of the police.

First one is obviously an error, and the fault of the police. The second one was failure of the police to properly identify themselves probably.

Now, I don't see any examples that parallel where they were initally attacked by a subject, that seem to a blatant error.

So its like apples and oranges as far as I am concerned.

I not saying that they are identical situations. I'm saying that this incident is just one more in a long line of police screwups. All people watching t.v. saw was another african american being beat by police, and then he died. To alot of those people especially the african american community,it won't matter how he really died, just that he died at the hands of the police. I understand that he was a handfull for those officers. I also think that some officers are a little too gungho about taking down a suspect, if you catch my meaning.
