A Sydney-based IT support company has warned internet users about a new online banking scam.
PC Rescue managing director Paul Wallbank said on Sunday that the new scam involved people receiving messages confirming bogus bank transfers for hundreds of dollars.
The aim is for people to log onto a dummy site through a link to dispute the transaction and type in their account details.
"...We recommend (that) users ignore them. Under no circumstances should you try to respond to the scammers," Mr Wallbank said in a statement.
"You should treat any unsolicited message claiming to come from a bank, auction site or payment site with caution.
Wallbank said the main concern was that people were being panicked into thinking their accounts had been hacked.
If people were concerned they should contact their bank rather than clicking on the link in the email, he said.
