We want to make it possible to do things on mobile phones that had been limited to the personal computer," said Sharp spokeswoman Miyuki Nakayama about a new display the company has developed with the Canadian company BitFlash.

The software will allow users to adjust font size without the characters becoming distorted. Word processing files, spreadsheets and presentations would then be displayable, and the system would also have a zoom function.

The new technology uses the SVG-T format in a mobile phone, and will be available on Sharp's V601SH two-megapixel, or two-million pixel, camera phone, in connection with Vodafone Group Plc's Japanese wireless unit.
