Companies that resell Lindows, the Linux operating system, in the Netherlands have eight days to stop, since Windows successfully won a ruling in an Amsterdam court. The alternative system is said to be "profiting from the success of Windows".
People who still wish to buy the software are being advised to look to neighbouring countries such as Germany, where no such ban exists. Lindows management believe Microsoft is using the courts to kill Linux as an effective competitor to Windows.
The recent Dutch developments follow in the wake of various restrictions being enforced in other European countries, including Sweden and Finland, with action pending in France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
