Nokia is meeting the demand for mobile phones which take pictures by releasing a one megapixel model which is also a triband phone. After this announcement was made, Nokia shares shot up only 1.9%. The new phone will be sold for 500 euros ($616.8).

This new phone will have plenty of competitors since Siemens will have a 1.3-megapixel camera phone in the 3rd quarter and Sony Ericsson will have a 1.3-megapixel one out in the 4th quarter. The new Nokia model comes out in the 2nd quarter.

Sony Ericsson predicts that 30% of all mobile phones sold worldwide this year will have cameras built in. Currently, there are mobile phones in Asia with built-in cameras that go up to 2-3 megapixels. Most in Europe and the US only do 300,000 pixels.
