The Department of Energy allocated 4.9 million hours of supercomputing time to three key computational science projects.

The computing time is for the 6,656-processor IBM supercomputer at DOE's flagship facility for unclassified supercomputing, the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, Berkeley, California.

The topics of the three projects include thermonuclear supernovae, fluid turbulence, and photosynthesis.
