To date President Bush has forced at least 7 US Attorneys to resign their position without any reason other than he can do so. No misconduct has been cited as a cause.

Before the Patriot Act reauthorization, interim attorneys could only serve 120 days. The President is now appointing perpetual interim Attorneys to serve for the remainder of Bushs term to avoid the hassles of Senate confirmation.

Appointees include Tim Griffin, a top political opposition research attorney who is an operative for the Republican National Committee. Speculation is that US attorneys embroiled in public corruption cases involving US Senators are being targeted.
