I do agree with your equal rights statement, even being a woman I agree that isn't fair. But there are areas of the armed forces that women are not allowed to join either, so maybe that's their way of trying to even out the inequity?

No, actually it's just wrong on all fronts. But hey, what do you expect from a government who'd take advantage of public hysteria and enact the Patriot Act. It's funny that people are so for Kerry - saying he's different from Bush. Both supported WTO and the Patriot Act. From my standpoint they are both one in the same. What I get a kick out of is that they FORCE you to join the military... I'm sorry I don't want to die, and certainly not for what this country stands for... What are my other choices? go to jail for not signing up OR play the disibilty card (when i'm called i'm doin the later).

Undoubtedly there are many members of the armed forces who do not and never will enter into combat. There are many mundane tasks if you will, that need adressed. The evacuating of towns when huge storms come, the backing up of local police forces etc. Having said that, Most of the armed forces personnel I get to meet are a few cans short of a six pack. Being made/forced to do your duty for your country, to protect your freedom, by having it temporarily taken away from you, seems a little Ironic...

"Freedom isn't free." - is a reply I'm expecting. hahaha.

Well it isn't... They revoke our freedom and force us to fight for the freedom of others; when they already have hundreds of volunteers to do it...

Now as for equal rights in the millitary... Yea right. Women are reaching further into various fields. Not in infantry yet but they can be stationed in artillery units. Not as artillery but as Commo or as a medic. So lets look at this

500 men no sex, stress of war, no where to spend money. My 1st sargetn said during Desert storm they were busting women hoing left and right. They would take the money, give it back to the soldiers and do nothing to her. She would then hoe again. That is just beautifull.

They can't get me. Heh. 8+ years served. The army isn't that bad. Hell deployment is fun. Jumping out of a jet with a fully loaded M16 and 40 lbs ruck sack 10 lbs helmet at 1250 feet... priceless.

I would recomend the army to anyone. You truely find out what you can do. You push yourself past what you think is possible. 12 mile road march fully loaded.

And Spanky I completely commend you for going into and through the Army processes and 8 years? That's awesome. I don't know. I can't say I'd never do it. And I guess I understand the fact that guys don't yet have that protective instinct thing completely phased out yet. I'm not really sure I want it phased out, it's nice to know that someone wants to protect you. But - it still just would make me feel powerless to be held back, not because of my abilities but because a group of guys can't handle it.

I guess we can't have the both of two worlds right? haha.
