Hi, I have been lurking around for some time now. I was interested to know if most text files that you find on the intenet relating to hacking are still valid. For example, do the security measures still work, do the exploits still work etc. If not, can anyone tell me where I could find some that are useful and valid?

The best way to learn things isn't necessarily from "hacking texts". The best way to go about it is learning more about computers from books and manuals. Read about OS's and networking and so on. But to answer your question, yes, lots of it is out of date, especially the exploits. Manuals on how to use things like Telnet or basic networking still have pertinent information, but many are out of date. Good exploits sites are things like www.antionline.com and neworder.box.sk

Also, you could try finding E-books, or going to B&N and buy a couple (although they can be very expensive). There are a bunch of books out there relating to computer security which are updated on a regular basis. However, becuase these books are focused around computer security, they don't go very in depth into too many topics (such as coding and the workings of an OS) and mostly explain the methodology of an attack. Which is why you should do what Mornse said and read up on what you'll actually need to know in order to do anything.//
