Well my eyes have seen alot of crazy things in this forum. A lot of people here, use the word "hacker" wrong, especially l33t guys, and evil-h4x0r$ So, what exactly is "hacker", 1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. 2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming. 3. A person capable of appreciating hack value. 4. A person who is good at programming quickly. 5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in "a Unix hacker". (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.) 6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example. 7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations. 8. (Deprecated) A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence "password hacker", "network hacker". The correct term is cracker. http://dict.die.net/hacker>
Are you a hacker... ?
Cheers DancinG_GalaxY

I hate people who insist on defining the term 'hacker'. The word is depreciated.

Did you get lost? You sure you are at the right BBS. The term Hacker is used so many different ways. The media has transformed its meaning to mean something of a sinister nature. What used to be, what is, what will be. Who gives a rats ass. http://www.undergroundnews.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?/topic/6/381.html Look basicaly when someone uses the work hacker you know what they are talking about. No matter how they use it, you can follow along. Live or Live 2 words spelled the same exact way. 2 different meanings. When you are reading and come upon this sort of thing do you get confused? Thanks for the definition, but it realy isn't needed.

No but you did post this "Well my eyes have seen alot of crazy things in this forum. A lot of people here, use the word "hacker" wrong, especially l33t guys, and evil-h4x0r$ So, what exactly is "hacker"," Which shows you don't know jack shit about what one is, along with the useless list of stereotypical / judgemental pieces. About as close as the media is. There is a new surveying being done by A Professor Lieberman, of pittsburgh, pennsylvania, he has held appointments in the Departments of Sociology and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. http://www.telerama.com/~blieber He's working on a piece, An Accurate Description of The Beliefs, and Behavior of hackers. He at least makes it blatently obvious that the media, and the public in general are dumb fucking ignorant peons when it comes to this fact..(and pretty much an fact for that point) Meh...You want to know what a hacker is? A Hacker is a name I call myself sometimes when nothing else fits. Hackers were pranksters at MIT who did stupid shit for laughs, and fucked with electronics. They had ethics, and strong morals up to not to long ago. But that's because a hacker is now labeled what a cracker was, and always has been back to cracking safes. The fact is the media though "cracker" that sounds liek the white insult word, how about we use the term hacker, because it looks smart, and people respect these peeps. Then we all got fucked over by sheep taking it to mean someone that axes away at my files stealing, destorying, blackmailing, and preforming identity theft. Meh that's abotu as far as I go with that:/

bullshit, that's like saying don't fight the media's view, or it will change in a few years, let it settle over, if you believe in something you care about it. I get what your saying image, and structural word-wise perg, but fuck-a not caring. You gotta show at least a bit what you believe in or people will take it away.

weeve, does make a point. Take the word nazi for example: Na·zi ( P ) Pronunciation Key (näts, nt-) n. pl. Na·zis A member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party, founded in Germany in 1919 and brought to power in 1933 under Adolf Hitler.
It simply means that your a member of the national socialist german workers party like saying your a democrate or republican, but from what they have done the label 'nazi' carries such a negative conotation with it that no one would want to be labeled as a nazi. The media only uses the term 'hacker' when talking about computer crime, otherwise your just a computer programmer. The media and public will always be ignorant to subsets of our culture. Because thats what it is 'hacking' is not mainstream you won't see tv shows like "American Hacker" (spoof of american idol incase you dont catch on) it's just not that popular 90% of the people in america dont care that much about computers or technology. instead they have thier own little subset whether it be sports(which i barely know shit about, i bet people get mad when i call them jocks.), cars, rock, sex, those people that are all into their pets and go to dog shows and shit, gang banging, church, or anything. there are so many subsets of our worlds cultures and so many stereotypes that go along with every one that it doesnt matter what the mainstream media thinks of it. So, weeve does make a valid point that we, being associated with hacker culture, should care about the label being dragged through the mud by the media. But the truth is, that I still don't care what people think of me. I'm going to have to say that I really don't care about this. I just wanted to rant a little.
