After NASA's announcement that no more shuttle repair missions for the Hubble space telescope would be allowed, and the outrage amongst politicians and astronomers it caused, NASA will be looking at other ways to save Hubble.
NASA will allow the National Academy of Sciences to investigate other ways of repairing Hubble. NASA administrator, Sean O'Keefe, said that "autonomous robotic capabilities" was one option to be looked at.
Senator Barbara Mikulski wants to preserve Hubble and is fighting to this end. "Any prudent person would get a second opinion. That kind of decision should not be made by one person alone," she said.
