Listen.com is lowering the price of the MP3s on its legal download site to 79 cents so it can compete with Apple's ITunes service. Apple sells songs for 99 cents each. But, despite the lower fee, it costs $10 a month to use Listen.com.

Before Listen.com's Rhapsody service followed the business model where subscribers pay a monthly fee to download what they want. But after seeing Apple make record sales with its price per song approach, others want to emulate them.

In the future, Rhapsody may have a service without a subscription fee.
