Several journalists, protesting reports that U.S. troops killed 2 Arabic journalists and demanding a "full and open investigation into journalist martyrs", walked out of a news conference held by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in Baghdad.

Powell said that he did not know the details, but was "confident it wasn't deliberate. ... At a scene where there's been a battle or explosion or something of that nature there tends to be confusion, very often it is dark, mistakes can occur".

He also pointed out that the walkout was an expression of opinion that would not have been possible under Saddam Hussein. Al Arabiya's general manager said the journalists were driving in central Baghdad when another car ran a U.S. checkpoint.
