Microsoft can expect to hear the final decision in its anti-trust case in the European Union by the end of the month. The European Commission has announced that it will announce the decision on the 24th of March.

The EU has accused the software giant of trying to push out its competitors in the media player arena, such as Apple's QuickTime and RealPlayer. The anti-trust investigation has been carried out over a five year period by competition specialists.

Last month, it was hinted by the EU that they would offer Microsoft a so-called "soft" settlement, which would allow the company to decide which intellectual property rights it will give up, hence avoiding legal appeals.
