The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed the use of television frequency bands for wireless technology. These bands below 900MHZ aren't used by broadcasters and the FCC feels use of the bands will not interfere with broadcast signals.

Wireless broadband providers can use wireless transmitters on these bands to deliver service. People who have wireless networking cards and other wireless technology will also be able to use the frequencies.

Broadcasters in the US, however, question whether or not this opening of frequencies will not interfere with their signals. They emphasize that free television signals are a medium used by many localities to gain info and for many a lifeline.
