One of the first arrests for the new Internet crime "phishing", where online bankers are tricked into revealing bank details, has been made by police in the UK.

The 21-year-old man has been arrested for "phishing" customers from the Internet bank Smile, which is run by The Co-Operative Bank. A Smile spokesman said a handful of customers had given details, but "my understanding is nobody has lost any money."

"It is believed this man was a copy-cat phisher, and is not connected to the organised crime group that is behind the global swathe of phishing scams targeting bank users in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA," NHTCU said in a statement.
