In a Harris Interactive survey of 1,183 children and adolescents, 88% said they realize that most popular music is copyrighted but 56% download it for free anyway. More kids in the survey were concerned about downloading viruses than piracy.
Most of the kids knew that there are copyrights for games, software and books but a third still download games. 43% said it was alright to download music and 30% said the same about software. 17% download movie files.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) says the responses to this survey show that children need to be educated more about behaving legally on the Internet. The RIAA has conducted such campaigns and took it further by suing people who use P2P networks.
