ATMs running on Windows XP were infected with computer viruses in August this year, according to the maker of the machines who made the announcement yesterday.

The infections were first reported by SecurityFocus.com and experts for computer security say that the infections will be the first of many as Microsoft expands even further into machines and products that consumers rely on.

The Nachi worm, which infected the machines, was initially written to shut down the Blaster worm. However, it infected and crippled systems across the globe.
