CIA chief General Michael V. Hayden told the United States House of Representatives Committee on Intelligence yesterday that George W. Bush had asked the CIA to pay more attention to the activities of Hugo Chvez and the government in Venezuela.

Hayden went on to say that Venezuela, after Cuba, is probably the second country in the hemisphere where we have concentrated the majority of our intelligence and analysis efforts after being asked how the CIA was dealing with the Chvez phenomenon.

Recent elections in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Bolivia show Latin America moving in a more socialist-cooperative direction following Venezuelas lead and many observers see this as a clear rejection of domination in the hemisphere by the United States.
