A teenage girl in Eureka has been declared sexually dangerous. Tammy Wheeler joins the list of 138 men deemed sexually dangerous in the state of Illinois. Wheeler agreed to the designation after being charged with sexual abuse for fondling a 4-year-old boy.
"We felt this was the most appropriate path to take given all the options that were available to us," said attorney Mike Stroh. The designation will place Tammy, 17, in jail for an indefinite period whereas sexual abuse would have been a 7 year term.
"It allows us not only to provide protection to the public - but also provide an element of treatment for her that she would not necessarily receive if she was convicted in criminal court," Stroh said. Tammy's release will require court approval.
