I've been thinking of putting together a research group to work on white papers about various topics and post the results at UGN. A group of maybe 3-6 people tops, who know their stuff, and are willing to put in a little effort and use the UGN community in a efficient and productive manner. We could have something like a monthly topic, then go out and do research on it (if you know what I mean!) and come together to produce a detailed white paper to describe what we found. I'm not talking about ftp commands, and explaining TCP/IP to noobs. More like current trends in the Securite field. The latest exploits, firewalls, IDSs, worms, wireless, bla bla.

The way I see it, a lot of us here are pretty skilled, and getting together in a group would probably produce some great result. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about some LOD type of [censored]. Think of it as something like BSRF used to be before. They had some pretty cool files. and one of those guys went on to have a book published (even though it's crap). Anyways, if you are interested in doing something like this let me know, email me at [email protected] or reply here. let me know what you guys think of this idea.

In my articles (PSAP article is a good one) I tend to get ideas from people, things that theid like researched; then go all out looking up information, getting examples, and displaying it in the best possible way.

They turn out quite well, but no one wants to give ideas on what theid like to see, so it can be really slow to have 3+ people doing it.

Good idea none the less, it'd be quite entertaining to see if it picked up. Heck if it picked up I'd even be willing to have a go at it wink ...

Gizmo, I could have sworn he said something about the people really knowing their stuff. Sorry bro, but I think that rules you out :p

I am down as long as no one takes what we discuss and then sends it in to 2600 as their own wink

I've had plenty of articles in 2600, too bad my name wasn't on them...

I would like to help. Even though I work 7 days a week I think I can find the time. Plus I have a couple extra machines on my network we can use for testing purposes.

If you guys ever focus on Java web application or J2EE security, let me know. Beyond that, I can't, nor am I really interested in, helping out.
