I was sitting here reading and i came to a revelation. What is the point of helping people who ask, to teach them to hack? with them 9 times out of 10 they will find a new hobbie and drop computers like moldy bread. So why is it that we continue to waste time with them? Somone who really wants to learn to hack wouldn't come here asking how to do it and expect to be spoon fed, they'd come looking for intelegent people to give them a push in the right direction with some good heavy reading. Not any tutorial on hacking, but stuff much more deep. For example, i've been in computers for along time now, and often i just sit down and read random junk about computers on the internet just to further my knowlege. I will often sit at home on a saterday evening and read the rfc's, or other various technical manuals. So long story short, i'm ranting about idiots who come looking for a quick way out. Well their isn't a quick way to hack somone's computer. And yes i know their is [censored] like trojans and what not, but do you really know how to use a trojan, how it works, what it does, or do you just now that your "hacking"

Regards,

Skull

yeah, and if thats the case i always give the same answer google.com :-P they can go find some tutorials on their own. if they want to learn theyll also go through the trouble of finding how to learn, actually if theyre not smart enough to find themselves some good reading, they shouldnt even bother learning how to hack.
Posted By: sinetific Re: Newbies - 01/09/03 09:18 AM
I feel you pain. I remeber when i was starting out. It wasn't even to learn to hack it was to learn more about computers and expand my knowledge. Anyways im not condemming these poeple for wanting to know how to 'hack'. Its like tryouts for a sports team some people just dont make the cut, it just sucks that the cuts have to be made around here sometimes. They come around here to find out what hacking is all about, piss off people in the process by asking the same damn question that asked here once a month, figure out its not for them and leave. What can you do? If you have a solution please let us know.

Sometimes when something is foreign or new territory to someone, they have NO common sense in that area. It does't take more than 5 minutes max (usually 30 seconds) to do a search and/or point someone in the right direction.

When I answer questions, I usually learn a bit myself by reading other answers or looking for an answer.

It is simple, I agree Skull. So if ppl don't want to throw away a minute or two of there life here or there, then don't. There will be someone, and if no one is willing, they might have to give up or look themselves.

Very seldom do ppl come back and ask step by step through something. Ex. ask a question, get answer, and come back asking the next thing to do,etc.

So I come here to contribute, hang out, and help. And I think the majority of ppl here do for the same reason. I learn alot more one on one, talking in IRC, etc.
Posted By: Ice Re: Newbies - 01/09/03 02:41 PM
Ya, I agree with most of you. Like the guy that posted, I am a newb, Please help in the Newbie section, Did he ever come back and ask why we falming him. NOPE. Did he post in any other Section, Nope. Did he vsisit us at the Irc Server, NOPE. Thats how much he cares

So ur right, No need to waste ur time on people like that, People who careless about computers

Mostely its about being "KOOL" to them. SO they can show there friends, LOOK i defaced a site
I am "KOOL"

HEH, So i agre with all the posts i seen on this topic
Posted By: SilentRage Re: Newbies - 01/09/03 06:56 PM
I've been thinking about starting a tutorial or lecture or something on how to hack. Despite the topic, it would mostly teach about how the internet works, and ports and servers, and the concept on what an exploit is and what it means, and info on how to teach yourself to move on from there. Quite simply they don't know where to start. Even if they're a smart help-themself guy it can be quite frustrating if you have NO knowledge in the area. No basis from which to grow. I've been thinking about making a concerted effort in giving that basis.

And as for people who don't make the cut. Who cares? I enjoy helping out people. Part of it is I enjoy showing my knowledge in a given area - a show-off complex I guess. Another part is the challenge of expression. To teach in such a way that it gets learned. I actually find it fun to say something - and the listener says they don't understand. So I paint the concept in easier to understand ways and feel the satisfaction in knowing they finally got it.

I've actually considered a career in teaching in the past, I enjoy teaching so much.

(P.S. Skull, to get ahold of me, you'd have to be in my chan before 11:00 PM Central.)

well i think judging by the way a person words the question you can tell if they just want to learn computers to get their friends e-mail pass or somthing like that those are the people who deserve a good flame. But the others who are clueless usually just ask what should i do and sometimes get flamed sometimes not...however if you get told to do heavy reading and do get a reference site or to that should be your last most asking what to do to learn how
Posted By: Ice Re: Newbies - 01/09/03 09:36 PM
Ya, most people that come here and dont know anything about computers and ask how to HACK, Should get flamed a little.
If you have no knowledge about a computer, What makes you think that they understand all that hacking stuff, Ports, Servers, Languages, Protocals, Operating Systems etc...

There prb some guy that wants to looks "kool" infront of his buddies when he gets there Password on Hotmail like Cyber Said

The way I came to UGN was that some dude told me Skull was a hacker and I started harrassing and making him teach me [censored], and turned me on to this community, and thanks to him and UGN I've decided that "hacking" is not my thing...
But he taught me how to learn on the internet, and since then I have found things that I enjoy more...
Posted By: SilentRage Re: Newbies - 01/10/03 03:24 PM
Yeah? And who hooked YOU up with some IRC'ing skills to prank with eh? Some things hasn't changed. :p
Posted By: Mornse Re: Newbies - 01/11/03 12:49 AM
Yeah, I agree with SR, people might be smart but just not know anything in the way of computers. How are they supposed to know that there is no quick way to hack if we don't tell them? Most of our knowledge comes from what we observe and what people tell us, and if you don't know much about computers you'd think that there was some quick way to hack due to all the medias portrayl (spelling?) or hacking. Yes, I know that obviously nobody should believe everything the media says, but this does not meant that everything they say is bullshit and sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference. So the only way they are going to move forward and learn more and help others is if we tell them there is no quick way and show them how to get started. People who really want to learn more about computers will continue on, whereas others will quit, but they won't be able to make that decision without us helping them out.

Myself, I'm a very big noob; I'm not learning 'hacking' at all, I think a beginner must start by learning some programmation language first then try some tricks using them. I get flame everytime I try to post something 'intelligent'; this one will probably be as the other ones but I just don't care; I just have to say it. I also get flame probably because I'm very young; I don't think you guys love to talk about serious things with a 15 years old boy just because he is not 'mature' and you don't have anytime to waste with a newb. I'm not one of those lame kids who just wanna 'hack' the guy who said he was gay on #teenagers-sex on undernet. I'm learning things as you when you were young; even if other people don't help me at all; I don't care, no one will discourage me of learning just because they say I'm a 'kiddo' and put "Joey from hackers" in my title.(yes I'm talking about Gizmo here.) There is also the barrier language; I'm probably the only french in here but I like to talk english; even if I'm not that good and the things I wanna say are not very well 'formulated' so people don't understand me at all (probably many of my sentences in this post) I just wanted to say that kids aren't all the same and you have to make difference between them.

Thanks

"I try to post something 'intelligent'"
"start by learning some programmation language "

lol dont consider this a flame but i found programmation language pretty funny, maybe it was a typo

btw
je parle francais

This post contained frenglish, sorry.

Je parle francais aussi.
Posted By: Nem2k Re: Newbies - 01/14/03 11:40 AM
Yeah but you will never post in french in here because you know no one will answer so..

French is probably not your primary language(or is it ?) and you didn't go at High School where they teach you the same things every year in English.
Posted By: CyberNerd Re: Newbies - 01/14/03 08:30 PM
english is my first language...but as far as i know your not the only person here who english is a second language too
Posted By: Nem2k Re: Newbies - 01/15/03 12:24 AM
Yeah but they probably don't have 15 years old and just learned some basics english, as me.

Btw it wasn't the goal of my post.
Posted By: Mornse Re: Newbies - 01/15/03 03:54 AM
Hehe, funny how Gizmo changed your tag thingy back to Joey from Hackers. Yeah, french is my second language, english obviously being my first.
Posted By: Nem2k Re: Newbies - 01/15/03 11:44 AM
My title always been Joey from Hackers , I don't think he will change it anytime hehe. And Gizmo don't like me so, too bad.
Posted By: black^Pimp Re: Newbies - 01/15/03 04:09 PM
ahh Gizmo, i'mma kill you for changing my title to that. hehehe.. you crazy motherfucker.

Inglese e la mia lingua seconda.
Posted By: Digital Geek Re: Newbies - 01/16/03 04:08 AM
Hombre, no importa mucho que idioma hables. laugh

English is my second language and spanish is my third. And when I can, I talk in romanian, cuz that's my first. And as long as you can pot two or three words together in english, nobody will flame you because you made a typo, or you don't express yourself to good. (I think)
Posted By: pergesu Re: Newbies - 01/16/03 01:12 PM
What the [censored] does "don't express yourself to good" mean? Is good a person? Is good a thing? Is good a verb? Oh, you meant to use TOO, indicating a degree. While I'm on it, you should have said well, because you're describing how you express yourself. Good is an adjective, well is an adverb. You have to use an adverb to modify a verb. Stupid [censored].

Just kidding smile

/me wishes he could change Perg's title to Chief of Grammar Police. I had to double-check that I used proper English. Is capitalizing English right? You make me paranoid. I fear...

Posted By: Stealth Re: Newbies - 01/19/03 07:14 PM
the biggest thing about hacking is learning how to do it, you will never become a "hacker" if you cant learn how to find stuff on your own and experiment, yes it all has to start some where but still you need to be able to learn on your own w/ out some one spoon feeding you its allot more effective
Posted By: black^Pimp Re: Newbies - 01/19/03 09:07 PM
that's a damn good question Shinobi, but i really can't understand some of the people here..

Stealth, wtf was that ? we were talking about languages not about hacking and i'm sure 90% of us here knows what hacking is much better then you so i'd ask you to hang out to the topic subject.

btw ohfuk, long time no talk bro.. and i must say that was awesome !!!
