To. what extent is it possible to setup a wireless network with no additional hardware ( no pclan or wlan card and no access points or hub)

The reason i say this is because of the development of soft devices.... like soft modems,or soft access points that enable software to play the role of a designated harware....

eg: thers this soft access point that was released sometime back from Cirond.

Still isn't possible afaik.

I don't see how you could send/receive a signal with software. You still need a transmitter or receiver.

Will definitely be looking into this soft access point you speak of. Probably used on a PC w/ wireless connectivity already.

cirond.com doesn't seem to have what you are mentioning. Do you have a direct link perhaps?

ive been thinking about usb wlan cards or wifi cards as well ....which means that all u need to make a standalone box to conncet it to a network /internet is this usb wlan card and soft access points...but it'd be even cooler if we could get soft wlan cards as well laugh ...

Supports Wireless Access Points from Broad Variety of Manufacturers
Sounds like you still need the hardware and your PC can act as an intermediary access point. So with the other software too, you are using a wireless access card.

I understand what you are referring too, its just that w/o a way to receive the signal it cannot be done.

Kind of like a software cable modem. There needs to still be the interface connecting it to the network, so it is not possible.
