I was wondering how do get good advertizements on your site that pay good? Do you just call them up and say hay? Also besides sellling products and banners what other ways can you make money off a site?

Thanks

Advertising is always the easiest, but you have to have users to click on the advertisements, otherwise your ad's are ultimately useless.

Theres also products which you can sell, but you'd have to do advertising to get users in to buy your products...

No idea on what this place makes, but you can do a quick search on Google and thier ad sense program. If you want to advertise your site they are also cost effective.

i did just wondering about how much i will be making and if it is enuff to cover my expenses

it all depends. if not that many people click on the adds then you wont get that much money but if lots of people click then you make a bunch. so to say how much you would make is almost impossible and that includes a ruff estimate...

It varies, your user base HAS TO CLICK AD's for you to get paid... here not so many click so we don't do so well, we're lucky to pull $100/mo (which is the minimum monthly payout); some sites however make thousands per month (a friend of mine's site pulls 6k/mo for advertising).

it really varies, especially if you have the content to keep your users happy...

In the start, you won't make a thing, that's a promise... you need content, users, something to bring users back, etc...

this is a bit late on this post...
Do the owners of the advertisements have rules on how often certain ip addresses (correct me if I'm wrong) meaning certain computers, locations, can click these advertisements? If not, what's stopping someone from sitting around clicking on a banner over and over?

I doubt they have rules against that specifically, but they likely have it in the user agreement that they can invalidate funds when they see discrepancies such as those.

with google ads you can only have one click per ad per each unique ip address. their way of preventing people from robbing them blind...

This is actually an important point if you use AdSense. Anyone who actually sees the ads on this site knows that the poll of possible ads you see is pretty small. This is largely because the front page of UGN is fairly static. I personaly, out of curiosity, have visited links that Google Adsense displays on the front page. However, a new advertisment rarely comes up, giving me little cause to click.

Take this into consideration when using Adsense on your site. Use Adsense on various pages with different types of content(like UGN does), or be sure to keep the content new and interesting so that the user sees different Ads each time they visit.

NOTE: I know this is a bit old, but it's still pretty high on the first page, so I call it fair game.

The content is pulled site wide, which includes the forums; the forums is a HUGE pool of information, but is not "streamlined" enough for the adsense spider to access it all; this will be changed with the next forum upgrade (coming within a couple o fmonths).

And quickie, so long as you have something "of value" to add, you can bump any thread you wish wink
