Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 05:39 AM

can't you turn the speakers down or something?

UGN has to advertise, thats how UGN stays alive through advertisement.

If you keep hearing it, wouldn't you know it's there and you should be allow, so shouldn't bother you... [smoking]

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 05:41 AM

I don't think it's UGN... I come here a couple times a day and never get any popups. You've got spyware comin outta your ass, man

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 05:46 AM

I don't get any pop ups neither. Sometimes I do on the buttom right corner, but closing it is simple.

My speakers don't work, made a stupid virus and it actually worked. My damn friend opened it on my computer. It looks like it killed my speakers too. [smoking]

It is a banner . The advertising company dicks us around so much that its rediculous. Just wait for Cat to finnish the design then we'll have a few suprises .

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 01:02 PM

I really think that, spaming someone with, banners, pop-ups, pup-unders, and now with singing banners, and god knows what else, will not help anyone ! I mean, really, who the hell clicks on all the pop-ups and all the banners ? When all you'll get by clicking on them are even more pop-ups. And now, to make things even more stupid, when you install something like PopupKiller, they have pop-ups that detect that you have PopupKiller, and will not let you enter the site, and will spam you with a really stupid message like : "Turn It Off NOW, or this message will keep apearing !!!". So you see, there is no end to this. It's all fucked. There are banners that are ok, because they don't do much to anoy the user (except the more recent ones that scare the shit out of you with the weird sounds), but what I really hate are Popups, and I hope that UGN will never have to use something like this.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 05:57 PM

I have no popup software and I have yet to see any advertisement here aside from the one asking my to join a satanic cult.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 09:31 PM

jon, maybe it's cause you have kazaa lite installed and had kazaa lite create a hosts file that includes an entry for servedby.advertising.com. That would effectively block the ads. I did this months ago when the first java or flash or whatever ad popped up.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 09:44 PM

That's probably why I don't get any popups or banners either. Though maybe it's because I never go to the main page, as well. I'm not sure about that, are there banners on the forums too? Never gotten one ever

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 10:10 PM

You mean this forum?
Yes there is right at the buttom of the page, mine right now is some kind of dating banner... [smoking]

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 11:21 PM

Then it must be KazaaLite. I don't see any banners

Re: wtf is that! - 12/13/02 11:33 PM

wow i make a simple comment and i come back to see two pages of it, hah, neat...

well actually In a way I do have my speakers on most of the time since i always have music playing when im on it. and true true, im not gonna lower or turn of my speakers due to a stupid banner, well giz cant wait to see these "surprises" you're talking about. but yeah. i guess in the meantime ill have to just not pay attention to them, i mean you gotta have em, so we gotta deal with them. now if youll excuse me, im eating, and im out of soda.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/14/02 01:53 AM

Go to http://www.kazaalite.com and download the hosts file on the site. Then copy that and the banners are gone.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/14/02 08:01 AM

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about! :p I get down to those beats in the worst way. I don't even X out of those windows .. just let em sit in the background cuz I dig the music ... if you'd call it that.

Re: wtf is that! - 12/14/02 09:35 AM

We get enough users that click them to generate about $300 a year, after the new design (which parts are waiting on BP) we should be able to configure it so that advertising.com can go fuck themselves .
Posted by: black^Pimp

Re: wtf is that! - 12/14/02 03:25 PM

yes you guys are right, it must be kazaa lite !!

serbedby.advertising.com
ad.doubleclick.net

i wish those two did never exist. damnit

btw, gizmo you got it bro...

Re: wtf is that! - 12/18/02 06:31 AM

Re: wtf is that! - 12/21/02 09:22 PM

Yeah the host file thing is awesome.

BlackSpider- No offense, but I think you are a fucking idiot. If people have their speakers on then usually it is for a reason. And I am guessing he listens to music most of the time, or enjoys the sounds and background music of websites and video. You aren't making any points at all. Advertising is annoying as hell, and audio advertisements cross the line. You do not just accept shit like this and say you can close popups. If I email you every day, you could just delete them. Or, you could block me. But it only takes a second to delete them.

Your point that UGN has to advertise is beside the point. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure Advertising.com isn't giving gizmo any more money for those fucking talking banners. And even so, that is still over the line.

The hosts file thing helps incredibly. Also, if you get alot of popups at the sites you go to, I suggest a pop up killer, PUK 4 was ok, but I have heard there are better ones.

Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. Solving the problem does.

Edit: added
After posting I saw there was a second page. He does listen to music. Oh and as suspected, advertising.com is another way of saying "assholes."
