My room mate has a hp laptop and it has a DVD rom, the problem with it is that it will not read cds, DVDs play fine, but it will not read any data or music from cds. Any suggestions on what to do to help would be appreciated.
Thanks marius.
Try upgrading the firmware if you can.
Also it would help if you posted the system information, or atleast what type of DVD-rom it is
I'm going to move this one to our hardware forum.
Infinite

with an all-in-one dvd-cd-rw not sure what brand
and its running windows me
If it's in the HP and came standard, chances are HP is the manufacturer... they like to use only their parts and make you have to do the same :x
Most likely the lasers needs to be recalibrated. Unfortunately you will probably have to send it back to the manufactuer to fix that. Companies like HP buy in bulk for cheapness from wholesale electronics COs and slap thier name on it. So it will be hard to find out what brand it is without taking it apart.
