Apple dishes out iPod plunder for 500,000,000th iTunes download - 07/18/05 09:53 PM

Half a billion and counting. Apple has notched up the 500,000,000th download from its iTunes Music Store and a woman from Indiana is the very lucky recipient of a big iPod prize bundle.

Earlier this month Apple announced it would mark the milestone with a big give away and one Amy Greer of Lafayette, Indiana scooped the 10 iPods, the Gold 10,000-song Gift Card for the iTMS (and 10 additional 50-song gift cards to go with each iPod) and four tickets to see Coldplay on their current world tour.

The song that did the business for Ms Greer? Mississippi Girl by Faith Hill.

And it wasn't just the big five and eight zeroes that got a prize, Apple gave away an iPod mini and a 50-song iTunes Music Store gift card to each purchaser of every 100,000th song in the run up to the 500 million. In this list were 17 Brits, including a Grace Lilly from Durham who downloaded the 499,900,000th song with Crazy Chick by Charlotte Church song.

The unfortunate downloader of song number 499,999,999 is not listed!
